VOLUNTEERS HELP SPREAD
Gifts and Entertainment Shared with Veterans
On December 19th, over 190 volunteers made up from veterans service organizations, businesses, schools, local groups and community members gathered at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center for the annual “Holiday Gift Distribution”. The event was coordinated through Voluntary and Recreation Services. Along with gifts being distributed by “Volunteer Santa’s” and holiday caroling, refreshments were served on each of the community living centers.
Three hundred and sixty gifts were distributed to the residents. Gifts included fleece vests and comfort kits. Additionally, blankets and pillows were given to female Veterans.
Several local musicians provided entertainment. Accordionist Pat Gambacurta played a variety of holiday songs, pop tunes, show tunes, sing-a-longs and polkas!
During this holiday season, twelve hundred additional gifts were also distributed to outpatients from the Canandaigua VAMC and the Rochester VA Outpatient Clinic that participate in the Veterans Recovery Center, Veterans Transition Center, Home Base Primary Care, Partial Hospitalization Program and Adult Day Care.
All of the gifts were provided through contributions from community members, volunteers and service organizations. For information on volunteering, please contact the Canandaigua VA Medical Center Voluntary Service at 585-393-7761 or visit http://www.volunteer.va.gov/.
