Veterans Health Care Recognized as a Leader in LGBT Care.

The Human Rights Campaign – the Nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender civil rights organization – held a press conference at the Department of Veterans Affairs on LGBT healthcare equality on Thursday, July 11, 2013.  At the press conference, HRC released the Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) 2013, a report on U.S. hospital compliance with requirements and recommendations for unbiased, welcoming care for LGBT Americans.  This year, 121 of the VA medical centers – nearly 80 percent – voluntarily participated in the HEI.  An impressive 76 percent including the Canandaigua VA were awarded 2013 HEI Equality Leader status, a designation awarded hospitals and clinics that meet foundational criteria for equitable LGBT care.
