Kai Chitaphong serving with the US Army in Iraq.

Monday, May 9, 2011
Kai Chitaphong, Social Worker and Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn (OEF/OIF/OND) Program Manager at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center is currently serving his 2nd tour in Iraq. As a reservist in Iraq and serving for the US Army, he has developed and initiated the Telemental Health Program for USD-S (United State Division-South) which covers Southern Iraq. The program is now being accepted and expanded to USD-N (North) and USD-C (Central) Iraq. This will decrease dangerous convoys to provide soldiers access to mental health services and increase the US Army’s mental health capabilities to remote sites were military personnel are serving. This is the first of its kind, and there is a possibility of expanding the program in the future to military personnel serving in Afghanistan.
