The 2019 National Veterans Golden Age Games are taking place this year in Anchorage, Alaska from June 5 – 10. Voluntary Service and Recreation Therapy are racing to reach their goal to raise $60,000 dollars to send athletes to compete. They have raised $38,000 thus far and are asking Veteran organizations, stakeholders and the community to help them reach their goal.
The National Veterans Golden Age Games are held annually and are open to all enrolled inpatient and outpatient Veterans. This year Veterans attending the Games will each be participating in up to 5 events each. The Veteran competitors competing this year have been committed to a year long practice schedule, 3 days a week. Last year the Canandaigua VA Medical Center competitors brought home 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze medals. Veterans need to be 55 years of age or older. Competitive games include air pistol, badminton, bowling cycling, pickleball, swimming track and table tennis to name a few.
