DAV Van Donations

DAV van keys being given to the associate medical center director.

Ken Piazza, associate medical center director for the Canandaigua VA Medical Center, accepts the keys to one of the donated DAV vans from George Sander, DAV Chapter 15 Commander.

DAV Chapter 4 (Canandaigua) and DAV Chapter 15 (Rochester) each donated a van to provide Veterans in the Greater Rochester area transportation to and from their VA appointments.

The vans are valued at $35,400 each.

One van will be given to the Canandaigua VA Medical Center giving them a total of 5 vans that help approximately 250 Veterans monthly get to their VA medical appointments. The other van will be given to the Rochester VA Outpatient Clinic adding to their fleet totaling 3 vans that transport about 300 Veterans monthly to their appointments.

Requirements are:

  • A valid NY Driver’s License and insurance card.
  • Complete a Defensive Drivers course.
  • Complete a VA approved Driver Physical.

With more than 1.2 million members, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) is an organization focused on building better lives for disabled veterans and their families.  DAV and VA Medical Centers work together to provide transportation for Veterans to their medical appointments.

Nationally, DAV has donated 2,967 vans worth $62 million to VA health care centers across the country to assist veterans with transportation needs.
