Canandaigua VA Medical Center accepts Comfort Care Kits for Veterans

American Red Cross provides compassion and generosity

On October 25, the Greater Rochester Chapter of the American Red Cross delivered over 200 comfort care kits, valued at $7,000, to the Canandaigua VA Medical Center for use in their Homeless and Post 911 Middle East Operations (OIF/OEF/OND) programs.  This is part of the ongoing service provided to our Armed Forces by the Western and Central New York Region of the American Red Cross, who worked with local groups, organizations, corporations and caring individuals to construct comfort care kits for distribution to veterans and their families.

Various individuals and groups throughout the area collected items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, combs, shaving cream, razors, and nail clippers, and dropped them off at a local Red Cross Chapter location.  Volunteers then put the comfort care kits together, many including a personal thank you card in recognition of the ultimate recipients’ service and sacrifice.

Emily Sennett, Post 911 Middle East Operations VA Program Manager and Erin Militello, Homeless Program Manager at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center and Rochester VA Outpatient Clinic will be able to give these Comfort Care Kits directly to Veterans in need.

On November 13, over 15 Volunteers from the American Red Cross returned to visit with residents and personally delivered each Veteran in the Community Living Centers a comfort care kit.

Robin Johnson, Voluntary Service Manager and the Voluntary Service team work closely with local and regional Veteran Service Organizations that provide generous donations to meet the needs of Veterans at our facilities and in our communities.

If you would like to learn how you or your organization can contribute to support Veterans during the holiday season and throughout the year please contact, Voluntary Services at (585) 393 – 7757.
