On April 25th, Residents and other Veterans of the Canandaigua VAMC were treated to a Casino Day in the VA Auditorium.  The event was sponsored by Seeley B. Parish Post 457 Sons of the American Legion from nearby Phelps, NY, along with several other Sons, American Legion, and Legion Auxiliary members.

The room was decorated with Casino decor as the Volunteer members of Post 457 conducted several games of chance including three Black Jack tables, a Wheel of Fortune, a modified version of Craps, and a “Chuck-a-Luck” dice roll game.  Every Veteran was given $5,000 in Chips to use upon entering (play money), and they all spent the afternoon trying to increase their winnings.

No one was a loser however.  There were enough winnings to go around as each attendee then went to the prize table to select the prize of their choice, which included baseball caps, craft kits, shirts, flashlights, and highly sought after Canteen Coupons.  In addition, the Post 457 Volunteers also served coffee, punch, cupcakes, cheese and crackers, and assorted snacks.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the afternoon, including staff and volunteer escorts accompanying the Veterans.  Members of the Sons of the American Legion took pride in the fact that the Veterans seemed to be genuinely interested in what was taking place, were very interactive in their involvement, and seemed to maintain their interest all afternoon.

Many of the Veterans ended the day by asking that this event take place again, a sentiment that seemed to echo from Staff and Volunteers alike throughout the Auditorium.
