 The pre-doctoral internship program at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center in Upstate NY is a newly-funded VA internship site seeking full accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association.
We are seeking interns for 2 positions for the 2011 academic year, one in the General Mental Health track and one in the Neuropsychology track. We will be offering training at four sites/programs: Canandaigua VA Medical Center, Rochester Outpatient Clinic (ROPC), Center of Excellence at Canandaigua, and Veterans Suicide Prevention Hotline. Several rotations will be available at these sites, including, PTSD Clinical Team, Neuropsychology, General Outpatient Behavioral Health, Community Living Centers, National Veteran's Suicide Prevention Hotline and Homeless Call Center, Research on Suicide Prevention with the Center of Excellence, Biopsychosocial Rehabilitation Program, Psychosocial Rehabilitation & Recovery Program, and Home-Based Primary Care.
The program will provide qualified pre-doctoral candidates in clinical and counseling psychology the opportunity to obtain a wide range of experiences with a variety of psychiatric, medical, and geriatric patients in both residential and outpatient settings. The intern will learn to function in VA settings and will gain experience in the activities conducted by VA psychologists. The intern will work as an integral part of the healthcare team with other professionals and their trainees. Internship graduates will be well suited to practice in VA facilities as well as in a wide range of health care settings; they will also be prepared to complete specialized postdoctoral fellowships.
