Craig S. Howard, Director, Canandaigua VA Medical Center was appointed Acting Medical Center Director at Bath February 2006. Before coming to Canandaigua and Bath, Mr. Howard was the Associate Director for VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System, which is comprised of the Topeka and Leavenworth VAs.

Mr. Howard began his federal career in 1978 at the Brockton, Massachusetts VA Medical Center. Since then, he has served consecutively at nine VA Medical Centers assuming positions of increasing responsibilities and complexity before being selected as Director for the Canandaigua VA.

Mr. Howard earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Marion College, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Providence College, Providence, Rhode Island. He is a Certified Healthcare Executive with the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Margaret Owens was appointed Associate Director at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center and Rochester VA Outpatient Clinic in January, 2009. As Associate Director Ms. Owens is responsible for oversight of the Canandaigua VA Medical Center's administrative services. Prior to coming to Canandaigua, Ms. Owens began her federal career as the Chief of Nutrition and Food Service at V.A. Connecticut Healthcare System. In addition to her federal experience, Ms. Owens has served in leadership positions in several private sector facilities including Yale-New Haven Hospital, Vernon Manor Healthcare Facility, West Boca Medical Center, Glades General Hospital, and Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

Ms. Owens' educational background includes a master of business administration degree from the University of New Haven and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics. She is a graduate of the VISN 1 Executive Leadership Program, the Executive Career Field Program class of 2006, and she is a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Dr. Robert B. Babcock was appointed Physician Executive at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center June 2000 after serving as the Acting Physician Executive since September 1999. He was previously stationed in Albany, New York where he served as Chief of Staff of the Albany VA Medical Center, and subsequently as the Director of Medical VA Care for VA Healthcare Network Upstate New York.

Dr. Babcock is responsible for the coordination of patient care, research and education programs of the medical center, accountable for the planning, implementation and evaluation of all professional credentialing and performance improvement activities.

With an educational background that includes a Bachelor of Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Doctor of Medicine from Albany Medical College, he is board certified in Internal Medicine and Hematology. He continues to maintain a part-time clinical practice.

Dr. Babcock came to VA with extensive experience in clinical practice and medical management in the private sector, having served as a community hospital medical director and associate medical director for Medical Management at Kaiser Permanente's Northeast Division

Patricia Hryzak Lind was appointed Associate Director for Patient/Nursing Services at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center in 2000. Ms. Lind provides leadership and support in planning, designing, implementing and evaluating systems to maintain and improve the quality of clinical care.

Ms. Lind's educational background includes a Master of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Rochester, a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from the State University of New York at Utica/Rome and a Diploma in Nursing from Genesee Hospital. She has completed additional graduate level course work at the University of Rochester in Nursing Administration and a post-master's certificate as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.

Prior to coming to the Canandaigua VA Medical Center, she was Director of Health Management and Clinical Product Support at Preferred Care in Rochester New York. In this role, she was responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of population-based health management, case management interventions and health promotion efforts. Ms. Lind has also worked at the University of Rochester as the Director of Education, served as a faculty member and clinical nurse specialist there for several years, and as a Practice Administrator/ Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at the Anthony L. Jordan Health Center.
