Girl Scout Helps Veterans, Earns Award
Rachel Melia and Deneice Laude
Rachel Melia, 17, donated hundreds of items to local Veterans. Deniece Laude accepted on their behalf and will distribute the gifts.

Rachel Melia presented the Canandaigua VA Medical Center with hundreds of food items and toiletries she collected for area Veterans. Deniece Laude of Canandaigua VA’s Patient Assistance Program gladly accepted the donations. Rachel gathered these items by taking donations as well as recycling soda cans to raise money.

Besides her neighbors, she was assisted by the Chili Seniors, employees of the Department of Labor in the Rochester area, the American Legion and the Elks lodges of Rochester and Canandaigua.

Rachel is a member of Girl Scout Troop 921. She completed this project as a part of earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, its highest honor. Her parents Elaine and Kevin both served in the military and went on to careers of service to Veterans. Thank you to Rachel for following in their footsteps and helping Veterans in need.
